** *AUDITION * *~ exploring classical Indian and modern dance ~*
Urmika Devi is seeking 2-3 dancers interested in exploring the intersection of classical Indian and modern dance. Devi's background is in ballet, modern dance, and the classical Indian dance forms Bharata Natyam and Kuchipudi. Photos and information are online at www.urmikadevi.com
Dancers of all backgrounds are encouraged to audition! No prior training in Classical Indian Dance is required, but having worked in a non-Western discipline will be helpful.
*AUDITION INFORMATION** *Saturday, May 31st, 2:15-4pm *(*please arrive early to warm up)* *Susan Hess Modern Dance Studio* 2030 Sansom Street, Third Floor Philadelphia, PA 19103
**You must pre-register* Please send an email to urmika.devi@gmail.com and include: 1. Name 2. Dance experience (resume, bio, website, etc.) 3. Best way to contact you 4. Which of the following days and times you are available to rehearse (rehearsals will be 1 or 2 days a week)
- *Monday, Tuesday or Wednesday after 8pm* - *Saturday Afternoon * - *Sunday (indicate morning, afternoon, evening)*
*AUDITION FORMAT* Please prepare a short piece under 3 minutes.
Audition will also include a short class applying three dance techniques (modern, classical Indian, and mixed).
If you are a Classical Indian Dancer, please prepare a selection from a technical piece (Thillana preferred) AND a short expressive piece. This style of choreography emphasizes flexibility, so having experience in yoga, modern, jazz or ballet will be helpful.
