About fusion2, Junior Company
Dancefusion’s fusion2, a training company for young dancers was formed in 1996 so that teenage pre-professional dancers would have the opportunity to train and perform throughout Philadelphia in cultural centers, schools, and public concerts. The pre-professional dancers study at the Gwendolyn Bye Dance Center. Graduates have gone on to Colleges and Universities including dance programs at TISCH School of Arts at New York University, Barnard, Wesleyan, Temple, SUNY Purchase, Fordham and University of the Arts. They have also entered programs at Alvin Ailey American Dance Center, The Juilliard School, Paul Taylor Training Program, Martha Graham Dance Ensemble, Arthur Mitchell’s Dance Theater of Harlem and The Pennsylvania Governor’s School for Performing Arts. Admission reflects the high level of training students received from fusion2 and the Gwendolyn Bye Dance Center.
In 2006, the teen-age members of Dancefusion’s fusion2 performed four Isadora Duncan etudes at the memorial to Nadia Chilkovsky Nahumck A Legacy of Excellence at University of the Arts. In 2007 fusion2 developed the CAPE project and partnered with the HMS School for Children with Cerebral Palsy for a fifth year creating “Synergy” which was presented at the Painted Bride Art Center on April 22, 2007 along with other works. The project toured health facilities and schools with outreach performances in the Greater Philadelphia area including the Philadelphia Carousel House for Handicapped Persons, reaching up to 2,000 children and seniors. On April 12, 2008 fusion2 presented its Spring Concert "In the Spirit of Dance" along with the HMS School at the University City High School Auditorium. The program included works by choreographers, Jaye Allison, Gwendolyn Bye, Christine Cox, Rachel Morales, Charles Tyson, and Michelle Van Doeren. In addition to a collaborative work "Shapes" with the HMS School, the fusion2 company members danced in over ten new works in modern, ballet and jazz dance styles.
