Introducing the Studio Series, the last Saturday of every month at Studio 34 http://www.studio34yoga.com/
May 31st: Rebecca Lloyd-Jones (NYC) Dustin Hurt Aaron Birk UTOPIKRON - Directed by Anna Headley Joenotjoe New Extreme Dance Explosions Awesomes
Rebecca Lloyd-Jones performs Seabee, an intimate choreography about her travels throughout the world. Rebecca is originally from Japan, spent her adolescence and young adult life in the U.S. and a significant amount of time in Brazil studying Capoeira. Seebea is a strange and episodic journey, danced with athleticism, honesty and grace.
Dustin Hurt, Called Philadelphia's "Best Facilitator of Unnatural Noise" by the City Paper (Nov. 2006) is the founding director of bowerbird, a Philadelphia based experimental music presenting organization. He spends so much time organizing shows, we don't get to hear him play often enough. Dustin will play solo trumpet for us, a rare treat.
Joenotjoe, West Philly electronic musician also doesn't plays out enough, another rare treat!
Aaron Birk, Renaissance man, multi-media performer and visual artist will simultaneously dance and paint. He asks us to view his performance as you would a rotting log or cloud in the sky.
UTOPIKRON A Wellsian / Lovecraftian style Sci-Fi story about a disgruntled dishwasher who finds a happy-making machine. written, designed, shot, edited, and scored in under 48 hours!! Winner: Best Musical Score, Philadelphia 48 hour film project 2008
NEDEA is Rebecca Pateck and Allison Lorenzen, two very smart ladies who perform hilarious parodies of modern dance. But here's the thing... They're actually incredibly virtuosic dancers. They've got cred.
The studio Series is a monthly, informal series featuring performance in all media by some of the East coast's most exciting artists. Come check out their work while it's raw, and in the works. Feel free to hang afterwards, meet the artists and chat with them about their work. $5 donation.
