Manfred Fischbeck will premiere Fugue/Subterfug(u)e. Choreographed in collaboration with the company, Fugue/Subterfug(u)e explores the musical form of the fugue and its polyphonic, counterpuntal nature. Based on J.S. Bach's last and unfinished fugue from the Art of Fugue, part 1, 'Fugue' strives to embody the music and its structure (each dancer carries an individual voice in form of an ipod and speakers on her/his body) and 'moves' it through the theater , including lobby and audience spaces, onto the stage where it concludes, unfinished. Part 2, Subterfugue,' is set to an electronic score; the dance 'escapes' into a utopic place where it remembers, rescues and reconstructs polyphonic, counterpuntal form of the fugue as a way of non hierarchical, collaborative existence, sharing a larger harmonic space.
