If you've never tap danced before, or it's been a while and you want to dust off your shoes, this is the class for you. We work with our own natural sense of rhythm and timing to learn the musical vocabulary of tap.

About Instructor Pamela Hetherington:

Pamela Hetherington is a professional dancer, choreographer, educator, and artistic director. A Philadelphia native, she was a principle dancer with Tap Team Two & Company, under the direction of Robert F. Burden, Jr., from 1996-2011, during which time she performed widely in major theaters and festivals all over Philadelphia and the East Coast. Those experiences led her to imagine and produce dozens of tap dance and live music events in Philadelphia, starting in 2007. In 2014, she created Take It Away Dance, a tap dance and live music company that is the sound of Philadelphia. Her work has been presented by Small Stakes Philly, Jazz Bridge, The Philadelphia Jazz Project, Fringearts, the Lehigh Valley Dance Exchange, the Reading Terminal Market, Office of Arts, Culture and the Creative Economy/Creative Philadelphia, Koresh Dance Company, Dixon Place and the Barnes Foundation. She has received artistic support from the Pennsylvania Council on the Arts (2014-2017), Small but Mighty Arts (2014), and the Philadelphia Cultural Fund (2016-2017). Her first original jazz composition for tap dance will be published in the Philadelphia Real Book, 1st Edition (Feb. 2017). She works consistently as a solo tap artist and is swing member of the Sophisticated Ladies show at the Cotton Club in New York, under the direction of Dormeshia Sumbry-Edwards. Pam has been a consistent and visible ambassador for making tap dance accessible to people and audiences across Philadelphia, for almost a decade. She founded and directed eleven installments of the community tap and jazz music series, Philly Tap Teaser (2008-2014), which has now scaled into The Philadelphia Community Tap Project, going into its fourth year. www.pamelahetherington.net.
