Modern Technique with KC Chun-Manning

Drawing from a diverse background of release technique, Alexander Technique, developmental movement, gymnastics and various modern dance styles, this class will emphasize developing a sophisticated understanding of the head, neck and spine relationship as the primary guidance system of the body. Through provocative and challenging phrases that require dancers to be assertive yet refined in their execution, value will be placed on increasing three-dimensional awareness and an appetite for spirals and falling.  Movement material will incorporate lush, sweeping gestures with inverted ballet lines and serpentine use of the spine and limbs.

KC CHUN-MANNING is a dance artist and teacher whose practice interweaves the Alexander Technique, developmental movement, somatics and release technique.  Her work is reciprocally influenced by her interest in how deep life experiences swim within the circuitry of our thoughts, impulses and stories we create for ourselves.  She is the mother of a 5 year old superhero, who inspires and teaches her the incredible importance of play, friendship, letting go, and the desire to save the world.  She welcomes all opportunities for exchange, collaboration and coffee.
