What is Dancehall? ~ a Caribbean Street dance that is all about confidence, and attitude. This style of dance includes elements of African, Hip-Hop, House, Zouk, Salsa, and Jamaican Folklore. The Flava style is creative, expressive, fun, and the music takes you away. Dancehall Flava dance can be seen in videos by artist such as Beyonce, Rihanna, M.I.A., and Sean Paul.
About The Instructor: Erica Smith-Gooden
a Philadelphia native received her B.F.A in Modern Dance and has had the opportunity to work with noted dance companies such as New LeJa Dances, Mahogany Dance Theatre, Tania Isaac Dance, and Lesole's Dance Project. Erica has studied many styles of dance ranging from Ballet, Modern, and Jazz to African and Dancehall. She has also had the opportunity to share her love of dance as an instructor with the Dance Institute of Washington's Education and Outreach Program, and Lesole's Dance Project- EduDance campaign. In 2011 she founded Raediant Movement a traveling workshop, that's conquered Washington, DC Metro area & Philadelphia. Raediant Movement offers various dance classes with a special interest in afro-modern & popular street dances from across the Caribbean. As she continues to grow in dance Erica's goal is to bring the joy that dance gives her to others in the form of education and performance.
