« on: April 25, 2017, 09:08:47 AM »
Wissahickon Dance Academy offers three summer ballet camps: Dancing Fairy Tales, a Summer Pre-Ballet Dance Camp for ages 4-6 that feature favorite stories from around the world explored dynamically through dance; Beginner Dance Camp, individual classes in beginner ballet, jazz, modern and hip hop, Summer Ballet Intensive for intermediate and advanced ballet students, the program stresses the highly structured Vaganova syllabus and closely resembles the program of study adhered to in the former Soviet Union. All three programs take place at the Wissahickon Dance Academy at 38 E. Schoolhouse Lane, in the Germantown section of Northwest Philadelphia.

SUMMER BALLET INTENSIVE: Intermediate and advanced ballet students hone their skills in ballet, pointe, partnering, jazz, modern, character dance, historical dance and yoga.  Principal Dancer, Irina Komarenko, from the Donetsk Ballet will make the long journey from Ukraine to teach this three week program. WDA ballet mistress and former principal dancer from the Kyrgyz Opera and Ballet in Krygystan, Elena Tiuriakulova, has been on staff at WDA since 2003 and will also be teaching during the program. Additional faculty include Yosbel Delgado, formerly of the Pennsylvania Ballet, Donald Lunsford, Artistic Director of Philadanco II, Svetlana Lutz, former principal dancer of Stavropol Cossack’s Dance Troupe, and Meghan Dwyer, yoga instructor of Blue Banyon Yoga. The Intensive is intended for serious students who want to improve their technique. Dancers should be between the ages of 10-22 and have at least two years of experience. A studio performance will be held at the end of the intensive and will be followed by a reception.
