Urgent: Protect the arts in Philly schools
« on: June 20, 2012, 05:58:13 AM »
There is an urgent issue at hand regarding arts education in Philadelphia public schools: Philadelphia City Council is deciding in the next 36 hours what they will provide for the School District of Philadelphia’s 2012-2013 budget.

City Council has tentatively proposed providing $40 million to Philadelphia schools through changes to city tax collection, but $40 million is not enough…the schools need $94 million to meet their budget. If we don't come up with the full $94 million, essential programs including the ones you care strongly about — the visual and performing arts — are likely to experience severe cuts.

Please take FIVE MINUTES to call or email your City Councilperson and At-Large Councilpersons with this message: Please come up with $94 million for Philadelphia schools so students can have the arts and other essential services.

Find your City Councilpersons under the LOCAL tab and make the call today - http://guide.seventy.org/ .  Thank you for your ongoing support for arts education.

Sincerely,

The ArtsRising Team
