Creative Dance for 3 - 8 year olds:
Movement Stories / Laban-influenced Dance Learning
A double session.....At the Performance Garage, 1515 Brandywine Street, Phila PA.
This session is a double presentation on teaching young children. Mady Cantor will share her field tested movement stories which incorporate skill-building, creative work, humor and fun. The written stories, and, for some stories, music CDs will be provided. Sarah Gladwin Camp studied the British approach to dance education at the Laban School of Contemporary Dance in London. She will lead a sample class for 3-8 year olds including the elements of creating, performing and evaluation based on the methods she learned in England. As an added bonus some real-live children will join us for these workshops to show us how it's really done!
Mady Cantor is coordinator of Dance TAG, as well as Associate Director of Dance at Bryn Mawr College where she teaches technique, composition, repertory, and directs the Dance Outreach Project. She has taught young children for many years in schools and community programs and daycare settings where she developed these movement stories. She has a special interest in facilitating meaningful and joyful dance experiences for children.
Sarah Gladwin Camp founded ZoomDance, a creative dance program in Philadelphia in 2007. She has taught kids dance, music, drama, and acrobatics at Philadelphia School for the Deaf, InMovement Gymnastics, Children's Dance Festival in Poland, and Creative Movements and PollyAnna Theatre in London. Her dance life began at Swarthmore College and continued in London at The Circus Space and Laban School for Contemporary Dance, where she received a Professional Diploma. As a professional dancer and choreographer, she has participated in festivals in Lithuania, Slovakia, Finland, Poland, Florida, Connecticut, Colorado, California, and Pennsylvania, and has performed with groups in Italy and England. Here in Philadelphia, Sarah is a founding member and co-artistic director of contemporary dance theater company Green Chair Dance Group. She continues to choreograph and perform with Green Chair as well as through nEW Festival and Mascher Space Cooperative.
Dance TAG (Teaching Artists Group) is a collegial gathering of teaching artists for movement ideas, information, discussion, and networking. We invite artists at all stages of their teaching - rookies, veterans, people currently working or those looking for work, especially artists in schools and community situations, who consider teaching to be an integral part of their artistic work.
PDP's Dance TAG is made possible with support from the Stockton Rush Bartol Foundation.
All PDP Dance TAG sessions are FREE !
