Kulu Mele African Dance and Drum Ensemble, a dynamic Philadelphia 40+ year old company seeks a full-time Managing Director to support company artistic leadership and build the organizations capacity and reach. Responsibilities include developing/improving overall systems, grant-writing and grant management, and management of internal and external communication. The Managing Director will support day-to-day operations and build systems to further advance the company.
Qualifications: Bachelors degree preferred. Five years experience in the management of arts, educational or community development organizations; demonstrated skill in grant-writing, budgeting/financial management, and program administration; understanding of and commitment to African Diaspora education, diverse populations, the arts, and nonprofit development/capacity building; strong writing, organizing, planning, and administration skills. Experience with MS Office (Word, Publisher, Excel, Power Point)
Kulu Mele African Dance and Drum Ensemble, founded in 1969, is the longest-lived African dance company in Philadelphia and is dedicated to serving the community by presenting and preserving culture, dance and music of the African Diaspora. Kulu Mele's mission is met through high quality and authentic workshops, performances, residencies, apprenticeships and study tours that seek to reclaim traditional cultural practices, enable self expression, and liberate and build communities.
