Tori Lawrence + Co. is excited to announce that their site-specific dance performance, holding place, will be presented at The Barnes Foundation in Philadelphia.  The performance will take place on Friday, December 14th (7:30PM-8:15PM) and will be performed inside the Light Court. The Company is also screening the premiere of their dance on film Elizabeth at 6:30PM, followed by a brief Q&A with the artists.  They performed an older work “Awakened Ruins” at the opening of the Barnes in May 2012, and are excited to premiere two new works this December. Tickets allowing entry into building, special exhibition and performances in the Court are available on-site the day of visit. $10; free for members.  For tickets: 888.616.0277.

Elizabeth is a ten-minute dance on film that is scheduled to premiere at the Barnes Foundation (6:30PM in the auditorium).  Set in a historic 18th century home and its surrounding fields, it is a quiet journey between two women, accompanied by the rich soundscapes of musicians Vicki Brown and Mona Chambers. It is for the wanderers of the fields who dwell in sadness, loss, and flight. And it is for those who are drowning, both inside and out. It has recently been selected to be screened in the En Route Dance on Film Festival.  Choreographer/director, Tori Lawrence and her dancers, Lora Allen and Ashley Lippolis commenced collaboration with Director of Photography Christopher Landy in the creation of this unique dance on film.  Here is a link to the film trailer: http://vimeo.com/50460725

holding place is a unique 45-minute piece commissioned by the Barnes Foundation that will premiere on December 14, 2012 at 7:30pm in the Light Court (main atrium of the Barnes).  Choreographer/Director Tori Lawrence is collaborating with dancers Amy Barr, Eleanor Goudie-Averil, Meredith Lyons, live musicians Bing & Ruth (a Brooklyn-based ensemble), and filmmaker Christopher Landy on this exciting new project that has been made specifically for the interior architecture of the Barnes.  The Company has had the pleasure of creating and rehearsing this piece inside the Barnes each Tuesday since October 2012.  Brooklyn band Bing and Ruth is an ensemble led by composer and pianist David Moore, and will be accompanying the trio of dancers.  Described by the NY Times as “making the most of layered and atmospheric melody,” the band utilizes clarinets, voices, cellos, and a buffet of other acoustic instruments to craft expansive soundscapes and quiet microtonal textures.  The ensemble enjoys its reputation as a unique live experience.  holding place will be the first ever dance performance that has been presented during the Barnes’ Friday night series.
